Mr. Dowling in classMike Dowling is in his seventh year at Emerald Cove Middle School and his twenty-seventh year in the classroom. Previously, Mr. Dowling taught for nineteen years at Roosevelt Middle School in West Palm Beach, where he was nominated by his fellow teachers four times for the Palm Beach Economic Council’s William T. Dwyer Award for Excellence in Education. More than thirty-two million people have visited, an ancient history website for middle school students that has been profiled in the Wall Street Journal, the USA Today and the Los Angeles Times. In 2000, Mr. Dowling was a guest on NBC's Today show to discuss the impact of that year's presidential election on students. [Watch the video]

Mr. Dowling’s first career as a radio announcer began when he was a high school student in 1978. In 1984, Mr. Dowling became the youngest radio station Program Director in America. In addition to positions in radio management, Mr. Dowling has been a disc-jockey, newscaster, talk show host, Production Director and commercial voiceover artist. Most recently, he was the night announcer for Star 95.5 (now Wild 95.5) in West Palm Beach.

Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, Mr. Dowling moved to Florida the day after Christmas, 1989. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut where he holds a B.A. in Economics. Mr. Dowling is active in Palm Beach County Mensa, and his hobbies include bicycling, chess and Scrabble.
